Explore the old smugglers’ paths of Stonebarrow, once home to Dorset’s patron saint. Descend through the National Trust landscape towards Cains Folly, with wide views across Lyme Bay. Follow the coast path to the little River Westhay, cutting through the medieval field system of the old farm. Turn inland as Golden Cap rises ahead, climbing back out of the valley. Pass a memorial wood, planted in honour of a much‑loved local squire whose death on these slopes was mourned across Charmouth. Return through the nature reserve to the old road that was trumped by the turnpike, now slowly crumbling into the sea.
