Explore the small and intricate valleys of North West Dorset. From the hidden village of Thorncombe, climb the slopes of the Stonelake Brook as it carves its way down a steep and narrow ravine. Leave the trees at its source to discover the lost Sadborow Pound, set in a triangle and circled by medieval roads, one just a ghost. Pass the stone gateposts of the neighbouring, elegant 18th century country house of the same name, its owners immortalised in portraits by Gainsborough. Skim the ridge of the hill, tracing the footsteps of rebels on a mission to dethrone the king, with views over the hillforts of Lambert’s Castle and Coney’s Castle into Devon. Drop down into the valley of the River Synderford, following its meandering path downstream, in the shadows of old Holloways and long lost roads.
