The little village of Longburton with its ancient manor house and mystery. On the outskirts is West Hall, a 15th century building still with its original oak door, scarred by the axes of Cromwell’s army as they attempted entry to search for the run away King Charles II. Tunnels are said to exist underground, linking the house to the church, providing an easy escape for both the king and any visiting priests to the loyal family’s home. Those that weren’t so lucky were hung in the cellar.
From the smart little bistro of The Elms, wander across the golf course to Folke, passing its manor house and church. Join onto the old medieval road between Sherborne and Dorchester to reach the ancient building of West Hall, complete with scars caused during historical battle. Make your way through the many orchards and back to the medieval road, now nothing more than a track. Return to The Elms via the impressive galley of sculpture made at Dorset Forge and Fabrication.
